Kathmandu: Saifullah, a top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander involved in multiple terror attacks in India and believed to have operated extensively from Nepal, was killed in Pakistan on Sunday.

Saifullah, who went by several aliases including Vinod Kumar, Mohammad Salim, Khalid, Waniyal, Wajid, and Salim Bhai, was reportedly shot dead in Matli Taluk of Badin district, Sindh province. Indian reports say he played a key role in infiltrating terrorists into India via Nepal and was responsible for maintaining Lashkar networks using multiple false identities.

He was a close aide to Lashkar's operational commander Azam Cheema (alias Babaji) and lived in Nepal under the name Vinash Kumar, even marrying a Nepali woman, Nagma Banu. His primary role was managing recruitment and financing for the group’s activities in the region.

Saifullah was allegedly involved in the 2006 attack on the RSS headquarters in Nagpur, the 2001 CRPF camp attack in Rampur, and the 2005 IISc Bangalore attack plot.

His killing follows India’s Operation Sindoor, launched after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 Hindus, including one Nepali national. The operation reportedly destroyed multiple terrorist and military bases in Pakistan.

Indian officials consider Saifullah’s death a major breakthrough, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterating that India will eliminate threats anywhere they exist.
